The Carnival of Extinct Animals
On the mountain, small birds play. This program weaves together birds from across the globe: the songs of plovers, honey eaters, shrike-thrushes. Truly an idyllic morning vision. At the program’s centre is Vaughan-Williams’ evergreen The Lark Ascending, complemented by a Australian birdsong collection written in the same decade. Brisbane composer Rob Davidson takes musical traces from extinct animals and transforms them into a moving and timely portrait.
